Washington, DC – The Cure Coalition applauds the NIH’s commitment to innovation and the development of more sophisticated research tools. However, while reducing the use of animals in biomedical research is a worthy goal, rushing to eliminate proven methods before viable alternatives exist is a national security risk, not just a public health one.
There is no true replacement for animal models and determining how a drug interacts with all 78 organs simultaneously cannot be done on a chip or in a test tube. Pediatric treatments in particular demand animal studies to ensure safety and efficacy for our children. The Cure Coalition advocates for a responsible hybrid model where alternatives are adopted when appropriate and supported by science. Restricting ethical research in the U.S. will only push critical studies to countries with fewer guardrails, risking our medical leadership to global adversaries like China. We must strengthen domestic research and protect the essential methods currently in use to ensure the health security of every American family.
Cure Coalition Background
